Former Leeds United striker Noel Whelan insists that it is nice to see a "good man" like Neil Redfearn back in management, plying his trade at Rotherham.

Redfearn, who left his post as Whites' manager at the end of last season, was appointed the man in charge at the New York Stadium last week.

The 50-year-old has signed a three-year contract with Leeds' fellow Championship outfit and will immediately be entrusted with the job of picking the team up from the precarious situation they are in at present in the league.

Whelan on his part believes that no one should begrudge Redfearn joining Rotherham as the man concerned deserves to find his place on the touchline.

Speaking about the prospect of a return to Elland Road late next month, Whelan added that Redfearn will definitely get a rousing reception from all the Leeds faithful.

"It’s great that Neil Redfearn is back in management again", Whelan wrote in his column for the Yorkshire Evening Post.

"I don’t think anybody will begrudge him going to Rotherham and starting his career off again there. It’s just nice to see a very good coach, a very good man back in the game plying his trade.

"He’ll be coming back to Leeds next month and he’ll get a fantastic reception from everybody and I’m sure everybody at Leeds United including the fans will wish him all the best."
