Tottenham and Belgium defender Toby Alderweireld has expressed his happiness at seeing more and more Belgian players getting the chance to play for bigger clubs in the Premier League, which he believes is a positive for the country.

Quite a substantial number of players from Belgium have found their home in England playing for teams such as Chelsea and Manchester United along with Tottenham, a club that Alderweireld himself represents.

The 26-year-old in fact is not the only player representing Belgium at White Hart Lane with players such as Jan Vertonghen, Nacer Chadli and Mousa Dembele also being present.

According to the former Southampton man, it is nice to have so many players from the same country at White Hart Lane as it helps in building up a friendly atmosphere.

Speaking about the progress of Belgian football ahead of their Euro 2016 qualifier against Israel tomorrow, the defender told Tottenham's official website : “Belgian football is growing, we have a lot of good talent and we work very hard to become a good national team.

“It’s very good for Belgium that there are a lot of players playing in the Premier League, not only in the division but also at the biggest clubs in the league.

“That’s always positive and it’s always developing the quality of the players.

“It’s nice to have friends at Tottenham and Belgium as well – we’re friends on the pitch and off it."

Speaking about their future plans, Alderweireld added that they will probably celebrate a bit after the series of qualifiers and then turn their attention back to the Premier League where they face Liverpool next.

“Maybe we can look at celebrating after these games [Saturday’s win against Andorra and Tuesday night’s home match against Israel] and then we’ve got Liverpool when we get back so we’ll focus on that.”
