Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea has remained coy on the rumours of a release clause in his new contract.

His move to Real Madrid in the summer fell through in the dying seconds of the transfer window as the Spanish giants failed to file the relevant paperwork in time to complete the switch from Manchester United.

The Red Devils wasted little in tying down the 24-year-old goalkeeper to a new long-term contract and he was restored to Louis van Gaal’s first eleven as soon as the team took the field after the transfer window.

While the new contract is expected to strengthen Manchester United’s position in any future negotiations if Real Madrid knock their door again for De Gea, there are rumours that it contains a release clause, which should make any future transfer relatively hassle free.

Neither the club nor the player have confirmed the speculation and the Spaniard pushed the ball into his agent Jorge Mendes’ court when he was questioned about the rumours.

When asked about the release clause, the Spaniard was quoted as saying by AS: “Jorge looks after all this, ask him.”

Manchester United want the Spaniard to remain their number one for years to come, but Real Madrid are still rumoured to be interested in signing the Spain international in the near future.

Despite Keylor Navas’ form this season, the Spanish giants have continued to maintain their hawkish eyes on De Gea.
