England Under-21 boss Gareth Southgate has revealed that Jordon Ibe and Joe Gomez are disappointed by Brendan Rodgers’ departure from Anfield and feels that the duo now have to work extra hard to impress new Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp.

The 48-year-old German took charge of the Merseyside club as the replacement for Brendan Rodgers, who was sacked earlier this month after a string of poor performances.

Ibe has already revealed that he was saddened by the Northern Irishman’s departure and Southgate feels that the winger’s young Liverpool colleague Gomez shares the same feelings.

The England Under-21 boss feels it is important that the young Liverpool duo remember what the former Reds boss did for their nascent careers and move on in life.

The former Middlesbrough man believes it is crucial that Ibe and Gomez find ways to impress Klopp at Anfield now and try to move on from the Rodgers era.

"I guess they already know that they've got to impress a new manager", Southgate was quoted as saying by the Press Association.

"They are both disappointed because somebody who has picked them and given them a chance has gone and I think it's important that players remember that.”

"Once they've done that they have to be ready to impress the new manager that comes in because that's the life of a footballer.

"I have spoken to them both because we always spend a lot of time individually with players to find out how they are and how they're doing at their club.”

Ibe was given his senior team debut for Liverpool by Rodgers and was made a crucial part of his first squad.

The Northern Irishman snapped up Gomez from Charlton this summer and the 18-year-old has already made seven senior appeaerances this season for the club this season.
