Arsenal are considering making a move for long term target and Marseille striker Michy Batshuayi in the January transfer window.

The Gunners decided against signing an outfield player in the summer, but with Olivier Giroud out of form and Danny Welbeck injured, Arsene Wenger’s side are at the moment heavily dependent on Theo Walcott leading the line at the Emirates.

Therefore, Wenger is considering dipping into his transfer funds during the winter transfer window and bringing in a new striker at the club, to add more meat to his attacking force.

And according to French news outlet Mercato 365, the Arsenal manager is eyeing a January move Marseille striker Batshuayi, who has been on the Gunners’ radar for months

Arsenal have been keeping a close watch on the 22-year-old Belgian for a number of months and it has been suggested that over the past few weeks they have increased their scouting activity around the Marseille striker.

Batshuayi has already scored six goals in nine Ligue 1 appearances for Marseille this season and their refusal to entertain a €30m bid in the summer suggests that they are in no mood to part with their striker.

While Arsenal have the financial muscle to make a move for the Belgian, it remains to be seen whether Marseille will be willing to sell their leading striker in the middle of the season in January.

Batshuayi has a contract until 2019 with the Ligue 1 outfit.
