Former Liverpool and West Ham defender Rigobert Song has been named the new manager of the Chad national team.

The 39-year-old has taken charge of the African nation in what is his first foray into football management.




Song, who retired from the game in 2010 after a spell with Turkish side Trabzonspor, takes over a side ranked 175th in FIFA's world rankings.

The former defender's first task will be to boss Chad in a Pre-World Cup qualifier on Monday 9th November at home against Egypt.
 


Song inherits a squad with players who ply their trade across the world, in Belgium, France, Algeria, Tunisia, Greece, Morocco and Chad's own domestic league.

The 39-year-old is no stranger to international football and won a total of 137 caps for Cameroon between 1993 and 2010.

Song is best known for his time in English football, with a spell at Liverpool from 1999 to 2000 and then at West Ham from 2000 until 2002.
