Everton boss Roberto Martinez feels that his side managed to keep an attacking West Ham team very quiet this afternoon as it ended 1-1 between the two sides at Upton Park.

West Ham pulled ahead on the 30th minute mark through Manuel Lanzini, who converted with a neat curling shot following team-mate Victor Moses seeing his own effort blocked.

But Everton drew level before half-time when Romelu Lukaku struck. The striker got on the end of an inch perfect ball from winger Gerard Deulofeu to fire the Toffees back to parity.

Both sides had chances in the remainder of the game, Winston Reid heading over the bar while Lukaku came close to hitting a brace, but it ended 1-1 as the spoils were shared at Upton Park.

Martinez was delighted with his side's performance and believes West Ham were kept quiet for most of the match.

"We allowed West Ham too much space for the first goal, but I was delighted with the way we responded", he told the BBC.

"We kept West Ham very, very quiet in the second half.

"The performance was terrific in terms of having a winning mentality. I was just disappointed at the end that we couldn't find that bit of magic to get the three points."
