Manchester United have been linked with a move for Wolfsburg’s Swiss international left-back Ricardo Rodriguez.

Luke Shaw was on the verge of establishing himself as Louis van Gaal’s first choice left-back before he suffered a double leg fracture earlier this season and he is expected to be out for the rest of the campaign.

Manchester United believe that Shaw will return before the end of the season and while they are confident the injury won’t have a long term effect because of his tender years, they are looking to recruit a new left-back just to have quality cover in their squad.

And according to German magazine Sport Bild, the Red Devils are keeping a close watch on Swiss international Rodriguez, who plies his trade with Wolfsburg.

The club are closely monitoring his performances and were impressed when he played against them earlier this season in the Champions League group stage at Old Trafford in September.

Manchester United have the finances to wrestle Rodriguez away from Wolfsburg, but with a contract until 2019, the Bundesliga side are expected to provide stiff resistance to any overtures for their full-back.

Rodriguez is also a regular in the Switzerland squad and has earned 33 international caps.
