Patrick Vieira, the new coach of New York City FC, has pointed to Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger as his biggest influence, but believes he has taken aspects from various bosses when it comes to making his way in the dugout.

Following a period working with Manchester City's youngsters, the former France midfielder recently accepted the top job at MLS side New York City FC.




He is looking to be a success in management and says that his biggest influence is Wenger, for whom he played at Arsenal.

Speaking to NYCFC.com, Vieira said: "I think the one who really inspired me was Arsene Wenger because of the number years I spent with him at Arsenal."
 


Vieira though feels he has also learned from a number of other great managers, a list which includes legendary Italian boss Fabio Capello and current Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho.

"But I was really fortunate to spend time with Capello, Jose Mourinho, Aime Jacquet with the French national team and I learned a lot from them", he said.

"So what is important for me to is to take what fits with the philosophy and the way I want to play and just express and be clear about the messages I want to send to the players."

New York City FC finished 8th in the Eastern Conference in the MLS last season and did not qualify for the end of season playoffs.

Vieira will be working with ageing stars such as Frank Lampard, Andrea Pirlo and David Villa at the American club.
