Emre Can does not agree with the opinion that had he returned to Bayern Munich it would have taken time for him to become a first team regular.

Bayern Munich sold Can to Bayer Leverkusen, but retained a buy-back option and it was widely assumed they would use it following his fine performances at the BayArena.

But Can chose instead to sign for Liverpool after they met a release clause in his contract at Leverkusen.

Can was asked by Germany daily FAZ whether he wonders why he did not break through at Bayern Munich, but he claims he had the option to return to the Allianz Arena, however opted for Liverpool.

He replied: "No, it was different for me. I could have gone back to Bayern after being at Leverkusen. But I decided differently and I am very happy about it.

"Some critics said that I was too young for the Premier League and for a big club like Liverpool, but I think I have proven the opposite. I have become a regular and have gained a lot of experience.

"And I know that I can do even more."

Pushed on the view that he would not have become a regular so quickly at Bayern Munich, Can cannot agree and says former Bavarians coach Jupp Heynckes rated him highly.

"No one knows that. Mr Heynckes thought highly of me and I believe he had a different opinion from you."

Can was taken to Liverpool by Brendan Rodgers in the summer of 2014, but is now plying his trade under Jurgen Klopp after his countryman replaced the Northern Irishman earlier this season.
