Sporting Lisbon and William Carvalho are struggling to reach agreement on the value of the release clause to be placed in his new contract.

At present William's deal contains a €45m release clause, but Sporting Lisbon want it pushing up to €60m as part of the new deal.

According to Portuguese sports daily A Bola, there is an agreement between both club and player on everything except the release clause value.

William's representatives believe €45m is a fair value for Sporting Lisbon to pocket if their client moves on, while they are also aware he is a popular target for several sides.

Arsenal have continued to be linked with William, but now the player stands on the brink of putting pen to paper on a contract running until 2020 with the Lisbon giants.
