Carlo Ancelotti favours a return to the Premier League when it comes to heading back into management, but insists he has no plans to take a job this season.

The experienced Italian boss was sacked by Real Madrid at the end of last season after finishing the campaign without major silverware; he was succeeded by Rafael Benitez.

AC Milan tried to tempt the 56-year-old to take over at the San Siro, but he refused and announced his plans to spend a year out of the game; he is currently living in Vancouver, Canada.

His plans have not changed, but clubs in Italy may be disappointed with the news Ancelotti favours returning to the Premier League, where he bossed Chelsea between 2009 and 2011, if possible.

Speaking on BBC Radio 5 live's Sportsweek programme, Ancelotti said: "I had a fantastic experience in France and Spain.

"The most important thing is to start; to find a club with a good project and be competitive. If it's in England, it's better.

"I will stay out until the end of the season and try to find another club next season.

"Not just in England, it can be in another country, but my idea is not to start now", he added, leaving the door open if he is unable to find a suitable job in the Premier League.

Ancelotti was linked with taking over at Liverpool recently, but the Reds handed the job to former Borussia Dortmund coach Jurgen Klopp.
