Dries Mertens' agent has rubbished speculation that his client could be quitting Napoli in the winter transfer window.

The Belgium international has been linked with a number of clubs, including last month Liverpool and Southampton.

Within Italy, Inter have also been linked with bidding to sign Mertens – but the player's agent insists that rumours indicating his client could move on from Napoli are false and he has no intention of leaving the southern Italian side.

Agent Soren Lerby told FCInterNews.it: "I have heard these rumours, but there is absolutely nothing concrete.

"We are not talking about these rumours", he continued, striking a firm note.

Mertens has made 12 appearances for Napoli in the current campaign, scoring four goals and providing his team-mates with two assists, catching the eye for the Serie A side, who currently sit fourth in the Italian top flight.

Napoli snapped the 28-year-old up from Dutch giants PSV Eindhoven in 2013, splashing out around €9.5m to make Mertens the first signing of former coach Rafael Benitez at the club.
