Fiorentina are keen to sign West Ham defender Angelo Ogbonna on a loan deal until the end of the season in January.

The Hammers had to beat off competition from other clubs to secure the signature of the 27-year-old Italian from Juventus in the summer and he quickly made an impression at Upton Park.

Ogbonna played a key role in their away wins over Arsenal and Liverpool, but he picked up a muscle strain in mid-September, which kept him out of action.

Since his return from injury, the defender has found it hard to win back his place in the starting eleven, and has played just a minute of Premier League football since he returned to the bench against Crystal Palace last month.

The 27-year-old moved to West Ham in order to play more first team football and is believed to be frustrated with his current position in the squad, which is claimed to have given hope to Fiorentina.

Fiorentina are not willing to splurge out big on a defender in Januar,y but are ready to sign the experienced Italian centre-half on loan until the summer.

West Ham are targeting European football next season after a good start to their current campaign, and may be unlikely to weaken their squad by allowing Ogbonna to leave, even on loan.
