Atletico Madrid striker Jackson Martinez has stressed that he will remain at the club as long as they want to keep him.

The Colombia international was a prolific goalscorer in Portugal and scored 92 times in 133 appearances for FC Porto, before he opted to move out of the club this summer.

Atletico Madrid had to beat off competition from clubs such as AC Milan and Arsenal to secure the signature of the forward and that too for a hefty fee of €35m.

However, the 29-year-old has so far failed to live up to his billing at the Vicente Calderon and has found the back of the net just three times in 15 appearances in all competitions for Diego Simeone.

There is speculation that both the club and the player are looking to part ways after a disappointing spell at the club, but the forward squashed the rumours surrounding his future.

Martinez insisted that he is willing to work harder to get better and will remain at the club as long as Atletico Madrid want to keep him at the Calderon.

The forward told La Sexta: "That’s a question you need to ask the coach.

“I try and work hard in every game. I’m trying to adapt bit by bit, but I do acknowledge that my productivity could be higher. The team are securing good results and I just need to keep working hard.

“I’ll keep fighting and I have no intention, as has been said, to leave at the end of the season. I want to struggle and wear this shirt and I’ll stay at the club as long as the club wants me to."
