Xabi Alonso will not renew his contract with Bayern Munich at the end of the season as he looks for a two or three year deal to see him through to the end of his career.

The Spaniard sees his current deal at the Allianz Arena expire next summer and despite his good relationship with Bayern Munich coach Pep Guardiola appears set to move on.

He has in recent days been linked with a shock return to former club Liverpool, where Jurgen Klopp is now in charge.

According to German daily Bild, Alonso would like a two or three year contract, but Bayern Munich will not place such an offer on the table, meaning the Spaniard is set to leave.

Guardiola continues to rate the former Real Madrid star highly, but is now regularly turning to Joshua Kimmich as Bayern Munich's future midfield fulcrum.
