AC Milan striker Mario Balotelli will undergo groin surgery on Wednesday and is expected to be out for two more months.

The mercurial Italian forward joined from Liverpool this summer on a season-long loan deal, after failing to impress during his year-long stay at Anfield.

The 25-year-old provided glimpses of his talent and even scored a goal against Udinese before he succumbed to a groin injury towards the end of September.

Balotelli has been out of action since then and he was hoping to shake off the injury without undergoing surgery. The Rossoneri were also keen to avoid an operation and were willing to explore other avenues.

However, according to Italian daily Corriere dello Sport, both parties have agreed to the surgery and unless a last minute change of heart takes place, the Italian international will go under the knife.

The surgery will rule him out of action for two more months and Balotelli could only return to the pitch for AC Milan after the winter break in Italy.

AC Milan will closely monitor the former Manchester City man’s rehabilitation in the next few weeks and take a decision on whether to sign a replacement for him in January, should Balotelli take time to recover.

Balotelli made four appearances for the Rossoneri before succumbing to his groin problems.
