Mario Balotelli says he will be back in action in a few weeks after undergoing a successful groin operation.

The Italian striker, who is on a season-long loan from Liverpool after flopping at Anfield, was forced to undergo groin surgery.

AC Milan had been hoping to avoid the need for Balotelli to go under the knife, but the striker has eventually had surgery.

Balotelli is confident he will soon be able to return though and took to Instagram to post a photograph from his hospital bed.

Balotelli's injury issues have restricted him to just four appearances for AC Milan so far this season.

He has scored one goal, but has not featured for the Rossoneri since a clash against Genoa in September.

AC Milan will be hoping to have Balotelli back and firing for the second half of the Serie A season in the new year.
