Barcelona are set to make a final decision on Lionel Messi’s participation in Saturday’s El Clasico tomorrow morning.

The Argentine superstar has been recovering from a knee injury which he sustained in September and is expected to make a return to action against Real Madrid at the Bernabeu.

While his participation still remains in some doubt, Barcelona have been confident of fielding Messi since he returned to training with the squad towards the end of last week.

According to AS, Luis Enrique and his support staff are set to take a final decision on Messi’s participation for Saturday’s big game tomorrow morning, as they make an final assessment on his fitness.

The Barcelona coaching staff have been closely monitoring Messi’s progress over the last few weeks and it has been suggested that the forward even played in practice matches last weekend.

While Barcelona remain confident of fielding the forward, they are also not keen to put too much pressure on his recovering knees too soon and invite the danger of aggravating the problem; so he might not start on Saturday against Real Madrid.

The Catalan giants have done well even without Messi in the last few months, but would ideally like him to reunite with his attacking partners Luis Suarez and Neymar for El Clasico.

Messi is also the top goalscorer in the fixture with 21 goals against Barcelona’s most hated rivals in football.
