Arsenal left-back Nacho Monreal feels that his young compatriot Hector Bellerin has shown maturity well beyond his years.

The former Barcelona academy full-back has been in scintillating form this season for the Gunners and at 20, is the first choice right-back in Arsene Wenger’s starting eleven.

Bellerin’s performances have been hailed by his manager and his team-mates and he has managed to keep the more experienced Mathieu Debuchy on the sidelines with his showings.

The 20-year-old has been nominated for the European Golden Boy award, and his compatriot Monreal is not at all surprised because he feels he has been one of the performers of the season for the Gunners.

The left-back believes that Bellerin has shown maturity well beyond his years and admits that the whole squad are pleased to see a young player such as the Spaniard perform at a high level on a consistent basis.

“It's not a surprise because he's playing really well”, Monreal told Arsenal Player.

“He's a young player, only 20 years old, but he plays like a guy who is 30. He's very mature and he plays with a lot of confidence.

“He trusts in himself and that's very good for us. Since he's started to play the level of the team is improving so we are very proud of him.”

Monreal is also confident that if Bellerin continues to remain consistent he will definitely break into the Spanish national team, sooner rather than later.

“I'm 100 per cent sure he will play for the Spanish national team. I don't know when as that's the question. At this moment there are another two right backs like Juanfran and Dani Carvajal.

“Hector is still playing for the under-21s but if he carries on, he will play with the senior team 100 per cent.”
