Former Liverpool forward Dirk Kuyt has backed Jurgen Klopp to taste success at the Merseyside club.

The German, who enjoyed a successful stint at Borussia Dortmund, took charge of the Reds in October after Brendan Rodgers was sacked.

Klopp guided BVB to two Bundesliga titles, and also helped the club to reach a Champions League final during his seven-year stay at Signal Iduna Park.

And Kuyt, who spent six seasons at Liverpool between 2006 and 2012, expects Klopp to have a similar impact at Anfield.

However, the Feyenoord man feels the 48-year-old should be given time to make his presence felt at Liverpool.

“Klopp did a great job at Dortmund”, he explained to Liverpool’s official site.

“Everyone can see that he has become an experienced manager and he has got the chance to manage a club like Liverpool – he will give everything he has.

“Those kinds of people, they like in Liverpool. I think it’s a good match.

“I hope Klopp gets time to do the work he did at Dortmund and I hope he will be successful, because I’m not a Liverpool player anymore, but I am definitely a supporter.”

Liverpool, who are currently 10th in the Premier League table with 17 points from 12 games, lost their first game under the guidance of Klopp before the international break, a 2-1 defeat against Crystal Palace.

The Reds are now due to face league leaders Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium this afternoon.
