Barcelona coach Luis Enrique claims he saw Real Madrid giving everything in terms of effort against his side in El Clasico last night.

In a memorable night for the Catalans, Real Madrid were swept aside at the Bernabeu as Enrique watched his side run out 4-0 winners.

It took just eleven minutes for Luis Suarez to fire Barcelona ahead as he finished superbly from around 16 yards out.

In the 39th minute it was 2-0 when Neymar converted from close range to leave Real Madrid in all sorts of trouble.

Andres Iniesta killed off any hopes the home side had of a comeback by scoring in the 53rd minute before Suarez grabbed his second in the 74th minute.

Real Madrid were crushed, but Enrique insists it was not down to any lack of effort on the part of the hosts.

"I didn’t see Real Madrid give up at all", the Barcelona boss told his post-match press conference.

"I think the result of the game is based more on our merit than Real Madrid’s lack thereof."

Enrique also feels that his side played superbly and fully merited their heavy win.

"I’m satisfied not just for the victory, but for the way we did it.

"We were better and the team knew what we wanted and we got it.

"We made it into their area with ease and created a lot of chances.

"We were effective both in attack and in defence", he added.

Barcelona now sit a comfortable six points ahead of Real Madrid at the top of the table, but Atletico Madrid could leapfrog Los Blancos and move to within four points of Barcelona if they can beat Real Betis tonight.
