Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino feels Dele Alli needs to be more mature after the youngster picked up a yellow card, following his scuffle with West Ham’s Mark Noble yesterday.

The 19-year-old, who marked his first start for England with a goal against France last week, is suspended for Spurs’ upcoming fixture with Premier League champions Chelsea at the weekend as a result.

Alli has been in great form for the north London club this season, scoring two goals in 17 appearances in all competitions.

But Pochettino is of the opinion that the midfielder still has a lot of scope for improvement, and that Tottenham need to take things slowly with the starlet, who has four senior England caps to his name.

"Last week, [he had his] first start with the national team”, the manager was quoted as saying by FIFA’s official site.

“It's a lot of things in his head. We need to stay calm with him. He has a strong character and in every fight he's always inside [involved]!

“But he's still young and he needs to improve.

"Football is experience. I'm sure for the next time he's more relaxed."

Alli, who joined Tottenham from MK Dons in February, was sent on a loan deal to the then League One club for the rest of the 2014/15 campaign as part of the deal.
