Liverpool midfielder James Milner is of the opinion that his side are “more than capable” of progressing in the Europa League, ahead of their fixture against Bordeaux on Thursday, as he tipped them to ride of a wave of new confidence.

The Reds, who thrashed Manchester City 4-1 in a Premier League game at the weekend, are currently second in Group B of the continental competition with six points from four matches, two adrift of leaders Sion.

Liverpool will be certain to book their place in the knockout rounds of the Europa League if they manage to come out victorious against the French team at Anfield.

And Milner, who joined the Merseyside giants from Manchester City in the summer, insisted that his side are confident about progressing in the competition.

The England international further added that a win against Bordeaux will also help Liverpool to remain confident for their Premier League fixture against Swansea City at the weekend.

“It’s in our own hands and always has been”, Milner explained to Liverpool’s official site.

“We’re more than capable of it and we just want to take this wave of confidence from the City game and make sure we keep it going and get a good home win.

“It’ll be important going into the weekend against Swansea.”

Liverpool are currently ninth in the Premier League with 20 points from 13 outings.
