Former Liverpool midfielder Steve McManaman feels Chelsea have no reason to get carried away after two back-to-back wins in the space of a week.

The Premier League champions have made a horrendous start to the season and have been at the wrong end of the league table for weeks.

However, a close win over Norwich last weekend, coupled with last night’s romp 4-0 romp against Maccabi Tel Aviv in Israel, helped boost the morale of a side who have looked short of confidence in recent times.

Chelsea will go into this weekend’s away trip to Tottenham Hotspur in a much better mood, but McManaman wants them to keep their feet on the ground as there are still issues to be sorted out.

The former Liverpool midfielder indicated that two wins over average sides won’t hide the fact that the Blues have been disappointing for the major part of the season.

However, he admits that being top of their Champions League group with a game to go does feel like a turnaround for the west London side.

The former Liverpool man said on BT Sport: “They are the champions of our country and the fact that they have beaten Norwich at home, you shouldn’t get carried away.

“They have beaten Maccabi, you shouldn’t get carried away.

“But it's two wins, they have scored goals, everybody has chipped in. They are now top of the group and need only a draw against Porto to actually win the group.

“That’s an incredible turnaround.”

A point against Porto next month will confirm that Chelsea will move into the last 16 of the competition as group winners.
