Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has provided a team news update ahead of his side's Europa League match at Anfield against Bordeaux tomorrow evening.

Klopp's men ran riot against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium at the weekend, winning 4-1, and raising confidence ahead of a return to European competition.

Klopp is happy to have Daniel Sturridge making good progress, while Christian Benteke is also fit. However, Klopp explained that centre-back Martin Skrtel has been struck down by illness.

"The best news at the moment is that Daniel is coming closer so he can train, seven, eight times in a row. That's the longest period since I've been here", he told a press conference.

"Christian Benteke is in very good shape. He is very important for us. When I came here he was injured, now he's had many sessions with the team, so that's important too", the German continued.

"Football is like this, you solve one problem, but then you have another one. Martin Skrtel is a little bit ill, Mama [Sakho] is on a good way, but not ready for tomorrow."

Klopp saw Liverpool suffer a shock 2-1 defeat to Crystal Palace in their last home match and is keen for his side to shrug off their Anfield blues tomorrow.

It remains to be seen whether the German will choose to involve Sturridge and Benteke against Bordeaux, as he wrestles with a wealth of striking options.

The earlier group game between the two teams ended in a draw in France.
