Jose Mourinho has revealed that Chelsea skipper John Terry is likely to miss his side’s Premier League encounter against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.

The defender picked up an injury during the Blues’ 4-0 win at Maccabi Tel Aviv in the Champions League last night.

Terry seemed to have landed awkwardly on his ankle in the 70th minute, and had to be stretchered off the field.

The 34-year-old will undergo scans to determine the severity of the injury this week, but Mourinho feels it is unlikely that Terry will recover in time for Chelsea’s trip to White Hart Lane at the weekend.

The Portuguese tactician went on to blame the pitch at the Sammy Ofer Stadium for Terry’s injury, with midfielder Ramires also sustaining an injury while training at the ground on Monday.

"The surface was bad and dangerous", Mourinho was quoted as saying by the BBC.

"For John to leave the pitch with the score at 1-0, I know already that he is in trouble.

"My medical department is really good. John is a special guy, with a special desire to recover", Mourinho said.

"But I don't believe too much that he can play [against Spurs]. Ramires slid on the pitch and had a muscular injury."

The win in Haifa helped Chelsea to move atop the standings in Group G with 10 points from five games.
