Leeds United legend Eddie Gray feels that if the Whites are not careful they could dragged down into the relegation dogfight soon.

A good run of form for Steve Evans’ side came to an end last week when they lost at home to relegation battlers Rotherham last week and now they are just four points off the Championship relegation zone.

Leeds were steadily picking up some form under Evans until their former boss Neil Redfearn’s team did a job on them at Elland Road and the Whites have now edged closer towards the relegation quagmire.

Former Leeds boss Gray feels that the club have reached a vital point of the season and if they are not careful and start climbing up the table, they could find themselves dragged into the relegation dogfight come the new year.

Gray told the Yorkshire Evening Post: “This month’s vital.

“We’re not so far away from the bottom six or seven and if you’re in that position come January, you’re in trouble. That’s a fact.

“I hear people say that we’re only nine points off the top six but there are nine or 10 teams in between us and the top six. It’s a big gap. We need results and we need points in this period coming up. After that, if this spell goes well, we might be able to look up the table.

“I heard Steve say after the win at Huddersfield [on November 7] that is was nice not to be looking over our shoulders, and he was right. But all of a sudden we’re looking over our shoulders again.”

Gray also stressed that the players must not feel that they are doing better than they deserve as he believes the Whites must be aiming for promotion each season, a thought he feels they should not entertain at this stage of the season.

“I think what the players can’t afford to do is think they’re doing better than they are.

"I always say that this club should aim for promotion every season but at the moment there’s no point in talking about the gap to the play-offs or anything like that.

“We need to put a run together, and a run of more than a couple of games.”
