Wayne Rooney believes Manchester United showed a lack of composure this evening in a 0-0 draw at home against PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League.

Louis van Gaal saw his side dominate possession against their Dutch opponents, but fail to find a cutting edge, seeing Jesse Lingard and Morgan Schneiderlin go closest to breaking the deadlock.

Wolfsburg beat CSKA Moscow in the group's other game and now Manchester United may need to beat the Wolves in Germany in their final game, depending upon PSV's result against the Russians.

Rooney feels his side should have beaten PSV this evening, but showed a lack of composure which proved to be their undoing.

He said on BT Sport: "It is a game we were capable of winning and we played some good stuff in the first half and we were unlucky not to go in one up at the break.

"In the second half we showed a lack of composure so that was not great. Overall a draw was probably fair, but this is what we did not want."

Rooney accepts that getting a result in Germany against Wolfsburg is not an easy task for the Red Devils' final group stage game, but the striker is sure his side are good enough to do the business at the Volkswagen Arena.

"Going to Germany is always tough. We have to believe in ourselves and have confidence we can do that.

"It's not the way we wanted, but that is the way it is and we have to believe we are good enough to get three points."

Overall the striker, reinstated to the starting eleven after missing a weekend win at Watford through injury, believes Manchester United must kill teams off when they have the chance.

"We are not ruthless enough; we have to score more goals as a team, they were able to nearly hit us on the break a few times.

"It's a learning curve, but we cannot go on saying that. We have to change these games into victories."
