Sam Allardyce has confirmed he is looking to sell Sunderland midfielder Liam Bridcutt, a player being chased by Leeds United, Cardiff City and Reading.

Bridcutt is out of favour at the Stadium of Light and Allardyce has concluded Sunderland can make do without the Chelsea youth product.

The former West Ham manager has confirmed Bridcutt is available, but insists the midfielder is the only one of the first team squad to have been made available, with the rest challenged to fight for the shirt.

"The only player I’ve said I’m selling at the moment is Liam Bridcutt, the rest have to join the fight", he told the Sunderland Echo.

"Who knows what we’re going to do down the line in January, I don’t know yet – I haven’t spoken to [owner] Ellis [Short] yet", he added, addressing his own plans to add to the Black Cats' squad.

Bridcutt is wanted on loan by all three Championship clubs, but played for Sunderland's Under-21s last night against Liverpool.

The midfielder could move on loan before the closure of the emergency loan window this week, but it would appear Allardyce is keen for any switch to have the potential to be transformed into a permanent transfer for the player.

It remains to be seen whether Bridcutt will decide to quit the Stadium of Light before the loan window slams shut for Championship clubs, or instead wait until January when a more permanent switch could be on the cards.
