Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has demanded more consistency from Arsenal after the Gunners gave themselves a Champions League lifeline last night.

A Mesut Ozil strike and a brace from Alexis Sanchez gave Arsenal a comfortable 3-0 win over Dinamo Zagreb at the Emirates Stadium, which kept their hopes of qualifying for the next round of the competition intact.

The Gunners managed to put together a good night after some disappointing performances in the Champions League this season and Ferdinand believes that was the kind of performance he expects from Arsene Wenger’s men.

The former England defender explained the Gunners had more tenacity about them last night and were aware that they needed to win at all costs, which showed in their performance.

However, he also pointed out that Wenger’s team need to be more consistent to succeed at the top level.

Ferdinand said on BT Sport: “That’s the Arsenal we wanted to see.

“The team came out at high tempo; there was a purpose at the way they played. When they lost the ball, they all knew what to do.

“That’s the Arsenal team you want to see, but you want to see that on a consistent basis.”

Arsenal will need to win by a two-goal margin at Olympiacos next month to qualify for the last 16 of the Champions League this season.
