Leeds United legend Eddie Gray has slammed the Whites players and feels they lack the courage to play at Elland Road, which has led to their abysmal home form.

The Whites have been enduring a horrendous run of form at Elland Road since last season and have won just once at home out of nine league games this term.

Their loss to Rotherham last weekend was the latest chapter added to their woes in front of their home fans and manager Steve Evans believes turning their home form around is crucial for their season.

Gray stressed that without a good record at home Leeds are not going to go anywhere and insisted that a remedy should have been in place now as it has been a persistant problem.

The former Leeds boss, speaking about the Whites' home form, told the Yorkshire Evening Post: “That won’t get you anywhere.

“There’s a problem at home and there’s been a problem for a long time, not just this season.”

Gray slammed the Leeds players and feels that they lack the courage to play football at home. He insisted that playing confidently cannot be taught and believes top players are bred with the mentality to not lose courage even after committing a few mistakes.

“The way I see it, too many of the players don’t have the courage to make mistakes at home. They don’t have the courage to really play.

“I don’t think it’s about confidence and I don’t think you can teach it. The best players, the top players, have that mentality. It’s natural. The mentality comes from within.

“If you make a mistake, try again. If you’re scared of making mistakes, you’ll never get on the ball.”
