Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes feels Anthony Martial lacks the attitude to become a great goalscorer.

The French teenager has impressed since his arrival from Monaco in the summer on a big money move, but like most of Manchester United’s forwards, disappointed last night against PSV Eindhoven.

In a game of few chances, Martial missed two golden opportunities to score and the game finished at 0-0, leaving Manchester United in a precarious position in their Champions League group.

Despite his early showings, Scholes feels the Frenchman still has a lot to prove when it comes to scoring goals regularly and feels he doesn’t have the attitude on the pitch of a forward who lives to score.

The former midfielder feels the Red Devils might have to bring in goalscorer in January to solve their attacking woes this season.

Scholes said as a pundit on BT Sport: “Martial, for me, still has a lot to prove goalscoring wise.

“He isn’t a centre forward who lives for goals. He likes to come out of the box, drift wide.

“He doesn’t look bothered when he misses chance, doesn’t look bothered when he scores too.

"As a centre forward all you live for is scoring goals. He doesn’t look like that type of player to me.

“Maybe they need to go in January to get one.”

The 19-year-old has scored five goals in 15 appearances in all competitions for Manchester United this season.
