Leeds United head coach Steve Evans insists that he will not delay planning for the opening of the winter transfer window and hopes to reuse work he has done of late over the coming weeks.

Evans has been working hard in the emergency loan window, but only managed to bring in midfielder Liam Bridcutt from Sunderland, missing out on the strikers he had targeted.

The Scot believes he will be backed by chairman Massimo Cellino when the winter window opens and is not going to leave his planning to the last minute, as he seeks to stamp his identity on the team.

"The planning for the January window won't just happen on Christmas Eve. Things we've tried to do in the last week, ten days, will be worked through again in December hopefully ready to run early in January", he told a press conference.

"I believe so [that I will be backed in January]. I’ve been given every encouragement to pick up the phone, identify players and work with Martyn [Glover, head of recruitment]", Evans added.

Leeds were linked with several players in the dying days of the emergency loan window, but Evans has managed to only sign one, when he admits he was aiming for at least three.

The former Rotherham United manager must now work with what he has, supplemented by Bridcutt, as he prepares Leeds for a trip to the capital on Saturday when QPR await.
