Leeds United head coach Steve Evans says as he understands it, the signing of midfielder Liam Bridcutt from Sunderland will be extended until the end of the season.

The Whites swooped to snap Bridcutt up from the Black Cats on loan earlier today, with the deal set to run through until the start of January, by which time the winter transfer window will be open.

But Evans, who is delighted to have got his man after a lengthy chase, says he feels Bridcutt will be at Elland Road until the summer.

"We've got Liam Bridcutt, who has come in initially to January, but my understanding is that will be until the end of the season as well", the boss told BBC Radio Leeds.

Evans also saluted Bridcutt's quality, dubbing the midfielder a step up from those already at Elland Road.

And he explained how he sees Bridcutt fitting into the side, pointing out that the Chelsea youth product is capable of operating both as an attacking midfielder and a defensive midfielder.

"Well he's a very experienced central midfield player; he can play in wide areas, but he is a central midfield player.

"He can play in a two, in a three, he can play with defensive responsibilities, can play an attacking role from that area. He's got good quality on the ball, he's industrious.

"In reality he is a step up from what we've got. He is a real outstanding footballer and he comes in to play with outstanding footballers."

Bridcutt, who has not featured at all for Sunderland's senior side this season, goes straight into the Leeds squad for Saturday's visit to Loftus Road to take on QPR in a Championship fixture.
