Former Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp believes Manchester City have a good chance to progress in the Champions League if they can avoid facing Barcelona or Bayern Munich in the next round.

The Citizens have booked their berth in the last 16 of the competition, but last night’s defeat at Juventus means the Italians are now favourites to qualify as group winners and Manuel Pellegrini’s men might have to face the consequences in the next round.

If they qualify as runners-up to Juventus, Manchester City would have to face the group winners in the last 16 and are in danger of coming up against tournament favourites Barcelona or Bayern Munich.

Redknapp admits that Manchester City would love to avoid both the European giants in the last 16 and feels they have a good chance to progress if they receive a favourable draw.

The former Tottenham boss believes the current Citizens side have enough quality in their squad to sustain a long Champions League campaign this season.

Redknapp said on BT Sport: “The only draws you don’t want are Barcelona and Bayern Munich.

“I think anybody else, they will bring them on. They can beat anybody. They have players coming back, so I don’t see them going out.

“I think they have a great chance to get a good run in the competition, even if they finish second, as long as they miss those two teams. They are on a different level.”

Manchester City will look to win their last game against Borussia Monchengladbach at home and hope Juventus lose at Sevilla in order to win the group.
