Manchester United youngster Josh Harrop has expressed his confidence about the progress he has been making at academy level and now hopes to get his chance with the first team soon.

The young midfielder has just recovered from a hernia problem and managed a full 90 minutes in Manchester United Under-21s' 2-0 loss against Norwich City at Carrow Road on Monday.

The starlet is now keen to enjoy another run-out against their rivals Liverpool next week as he continues to push forward towards following his colleagues to make it to Louis van Gaal's senior team.

"I feel like I'm getting to the stage now where I'm getting older and progressing", Harrop told his club's official website.

"I just need to keep working hard, day in and day out, in training and do my best. We'll see what happens but, hopefully, I'll get my chance in the first team."

Citing the example of Cameron Borthwick-Jackson, who was recently involved with the first team for the match against West Bromwich Albion, Harrop added that there is no reason why he cannot do the same.

"A few of the lads have been involved in it this season and that's my aim.

"That's what I'm here for. I want to train hard and get a chance. Cameron [Borthwick-Jackson] came on for 20 minutes recently and that's the aim for any young lad at United."

The 18-year-old was also thankful for the training opportunity he got with the first team for their Champions League fixture against Wolfsburg and is eager for more.

"I've been training before a few of the Champions League games and been in and out when we've needed players coming over. It's great getting asked and good experience to be with the first team.

"It's nice to get involved and for the manager to see you. A few of the first-team players I speak to and get along with always help you settle in."
