Sunderland have recalled Will Buckley from his loan spell at Leeds United.

The Yorkshire giants have just snapped up Liam Bridcutt on loan from Sunderland until the start of January, but Buckley is returning to the north east side.

Buckley was taken to Elland Road by former Leeds boss Uwe Rosler, who was axed in October and replaced by fiery ex-Rotherham manager Steve Evans.

Evans has been reluctant to play Buckley and he made just four appearances for Leeds, three of which came from the substitutes' bench.

Now the winger is heading back to Sunderland, where he will look to impress the club's new manager Sam Allardyce and make an impression on the side's Premier League survival bid.

Buckley joined Sunderland from Brighton, but slipped out of favour at the club under Dick Advocaat.

His loan deal with Leeds had been due to run until January, at which time the Whites were planning to keep him longer term, if he impressed.
