Bayern Munich CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has confirmed that the club will hand Bastian Schweinsteiger a farewell match when he chooses to hang up his boots.

Rummenigge confirmed the news this evening at the club's AGM, speaking warmly of the former Bayern Munich midfielder.

Schweinsteiger, who started his career at Bayern Munich, joined Manchester United in the summer, bringing to an end his lengthy stay with the Bavarians.

The 31-year-old remains a hugely popular figure at the Allianz Arena and Bayern Munich will make sure his contribution to the club does not go unnoticed.

Rummenigge also feels that Schweinsteiger has not found anything better in Manchester than he had in Munich and said: "We all know our Louis [van Gaal], we know about the weather and I don't even want to talk about the food."

Schweinsteiger picked up eight Bundesliga titles with Bayern Munich, along with seven German Cups.

He also helped the Bavarians to taste success in the Champions League in 2013.

The midfielder has a contract with Manchester United until 2018.
