Former Celtic striker Chris Sutton feels the Bhoys cannot hope to improve if they keep selling their best players every season.

The Hoops suffered an embarrassing exit from the Europa League last night when Ajax scored a late winner to take all three points from Celtic Park and kicked the home side out of the competition.

Celtic needed to win their last two group games to confirm progress into the round of 32, but now no matter what happens at Fenerbahce in a little less than two weeks' time, Ronny Deila’s men will finish at the bottom of Group A.

Sutton is furious with the performance of his former side and stressed that things are only going to get more difficult for Celtic in the future.

He explained that the club cannot hope to move forward if they keep selling their best players and believes they should be embarrassed by their performance in front of their home fans.

Sutton said on BT Sport: “It’s not rocket science; it’s going to get worse.

“If we keep selling off the best players, and if you are not improving you are just going to get worse.

“Enough fans sat back and clapped the players off, did they deserve that?”

Celtic’s focus will completely shift to domestic affairs now, where they are still odds on favourites to win the league title.
