Liverpool legend Dietmar Hamann is of the opinion that the Reds should put in more consistent performances following their hard-fought 2-1 win over Bordeaux in the Europa League last night.

The Reds, who outplayed Premier League champions Chelsea and won 3-1 at the end of October, laboured to a 1-0 win over Rubin Kazan earlier in the month before losing to Crystal Palace.

Similarly, the Merseyside giants followed up their scintillating 4-1 performance at Manchester City last weekend by narrowly edging out Bordeaux with an insipid display at Anfield.

And Hamann, who turned out for Liverpool between 1999 and 2006, feels the Anfield outfit need to put in more consistent performances if they wish to challenge the best clubs in Europe and in the Premier League.

“Looking forward, I think they have got to show more”, the German said on LFC TV.

“Yes, it was a great performance at Saturday or against Chelsea a few weeks back, but they need to be more consistent.

“I know its early days for the manager. But if you want to challenge the best teams in Europe, the best teams in the Premier League, you have got to be more consistent.

“Tonight [Thursday] was a workman-like performance and sometimes I just wished there was a bit more class, especially in the second half.

“Over the 90 minutes there was not enough quality all round the pitch.”

Liverpool, who managed to book their place in the knockout rounds of the Europa League after beating Bordeaux, will next face Swansea City in a Premier League game on Sunday.
