West Ham United defensive midfielder Alex Song has explained that his side are desperate to return to winning ways, ahead of their Premier League meeting with West Bromwich Albion on Sunday.

The Hammers suffered their biggest defeat of the season last weekend, when they were thrashed 4-1 by Tottenham Hotspur in a London derby at White Hart Lane.

West Ham, who are currently sixth in the Premier League with 21 points from 13 games, have failed to win their last three league fixtures, having lost 2-0 to Watford and drawn 1-1 with Everton before the debacle against Spurs.

And Song believes the game against West Brom will be a test of character for his side as they aim to put their campaign back on track.

“Last Sunday was very disappointing against Tottenham. We don't want to lose a derby, but we have to move forward and put the game behind us”, he wrote on his blog.

“We have a very big game on Sunday and it is a game that we want to win. We need to work hard in training and show a different kind of performance against West Brom.

“It is very important for us to show the fans that we have a good character and that we want to put things right after what happened last weekend.”

Song, who made his first competitive appearance of the season when he came on as a late substitute against Spurs, is currently on loan at West Ham from Champions League winners Barcelona.
