Neil Warnock says he was "like a young pup" after his QPR side grabbed a 1-0 win over Leeds United at Loftus Road earlier today and is now hoping he will remain in charge for Thursday's visit to Reading.

The former Leeds manager has been drafted in as a caretaker boss while the London side search for a permanent manager and guided the R's to a win over his old side in the Championship fixture.

QPR were on top throughout, but had to wait until they brought Charlie Austin off the bench in the 57th minute to take the lead.

The striker struck just one minute later, finding space in the penalty area from a corner kick to head past Marco Silvestri in the Leeds goal.

Leeds had no answer and went down to defeat, leaving Warnock delighted and QPR sitting 12th in the standings.

He told BBC London: "You forget when you score goals like that and when the final whistle went, I don't know if anyone got a picture of me, but I was like a young pup."

Warnock was asked what the situation is regarding his caretaker position continuing and replied: "I don't know [if it’s my last game]. All I am doing is enjoying myself. You can see the players are trying for me.

"Look at Middlesbrough and we might have won, now we go to Reading and I'm hoping I'm in charge for that one!"

QPR are next in action away at Reading on Thursday and Warnock will be desperate to guide the R's to another win as the clock ticks down on his caretaker tenure.
