West Ham United co-chairman David Gold has called on the club to find a way to negate Dimitri Payet’s absence.

Payet, who joined the Hammers from Marseille in the summer, has been in great form in the present campaign, scoring five goals and providing three assists in 12 Premier League outings.

However, the Frenchman, who has been the main driving force behind West Ham’s strong start to the season, picked up an ankle injury against Everton earlier in the month.

As a result, the 28-year-old has been ruled out for up to three weeks.

West Ham struggled badly without Payet against Tottenham Hotspur last weekend, as Slaven Bilic’s side went down 4-1 at White Hart Lane, the club’s biggest defeat of the season.

Hence, Gold underlined the importance of West Ham learning to play well without their injured star performer.

“We have to find a way to be at our best without Dimitri Payet and it is about finding a formation that works without him”, the co-chairman wrote on his blog.

“I am sure that Slaven would have worked that out.”

West Ham, who are sixth in the Premier League, are next up against West Bromwich Albion at Upton Park tomorrow.
