Louis van Gaal feels his Manchester United side could have beaten Leicester City today, instead of drawing 1-1, but he is proud of his players for controlling the game.

Manchester United had the better of possession from the start at the King Power Stadium, but Leicester continued to look dangerous on the break.

And Leicester did take the lead, striking in the 24th minute through Jamie Vardy.

He got on the end of a Christian Fuchs pass after a quick counter attack from a Red Devils corner, slipping between two defenders, and then slotting past David de Gea to score in his eleventh successive Premier League game, a new record.

Leicester however could not hold the lead until half time and in first half stoppage time Bastian Schweinsteiger managed to find space from a corner to head into the back of the net, his first goal for Manchester United.

The Red Devils dominated the ball in the second half, but the visitors struggled to create clear cut chances and the match fizzled out to a 1-1 draw.

For Van Gaal, Manchester United did dominate the game, but the Dutchman is left with the feeling they could have taken all three points.

He said on Sky Sports: "I think after the disappointment against PSV, we have dominated the game. I have the feeling we could have won this game and I think I have also said to my players these kinds of matches you have to win when you want to be champions at the end of the season."

The Red Devils boss also feels that with limited time to prepare for the game, his side acquitted themselves well.

"I have a bad feeling because we could have won, but I am also proud that they could play like this."

On Vardy's goal, Van Gaal was disappointed to concede, but tipped his hat to the striker's quality.

"You can imagine we prepare for it, but it was their quality and especially after the corner kick.

"It was unbelievable that that could happen. We gave the goal away, but it was the quality of Vardy also."
