Ex-Netherlands international Clarence Seedorf feels it is unjust to criticise Louis van Gaal’s tactics at Manchester United.

The Red Devils, who appointed Van Gaal last summer, are currently second in the Premier League with 27 points from 13 games, just one adrift of leaders Leicester City.

The Old Trafford outfit will also guarantee their place in the knockout rounds of the Champions League if they beat Wolfsburg in their final group stage game next month.

However, Van Gaal has often come in for heavy criticism from certain corners, owing to the 64-year-old’s defensive strategies.

But Seedorf, who played under his compatriot at Ajax, believes it is unfair to complain about Van Gaal’s philosophy as the former Barcelona boss has won trophies with every club he has managed.

"I don't know who is criticising Van Gaal but I am sure that the team is not – they are second in the league”, he told the BBC.

"I don't think he has changed too much since I started working with him at Ajax. He has always had results with his teams, and he has always won things.

"You can like or dislike him, and like or dislike his team's playing style but football does not have just one way of getting results – I think every coach has the right to work with his own philosophy if he gets the desired results.

"I hope he will continue the way they are playing because they are near the top of the table."

Manchester United, who were held to a goalless draw by PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League on Wednesday, will face Leicester City in a top of the table clash later today.
