Liverpool legend Steve McManaman feels Jurgen Klopp may begin to trust other players he has previously managed, before Daniel Sturridge.

The striker has endured an injury-ravaged season, and is yet to feature under new manager Klopp, who took charge of the Reds last month.

Sturridge was set to return to action in the Europa League fixture against Bordeaux on Thursday, but the England international was ruled out of the game, which Liverpool won 2-1, after picking up a foot injury in training.

Klopp later said at a press conference that the 26-year-old should learn to manage pain as the Merseyside giants prepare for their Premier League game against Swansea City tomorrow without Sturridge.

And McManaman, who turned out for Liverpool between 1990 and 1999, thinks Klopp will start trusting other strikers he has signed before if Sturridge’s injury woes continue.

“This is a new manager. This manager hasn’t relied on him before, doesn’t know his past records because he hasn’t played for him”, he said on BT Sport.

“But Jurgen Klopp knows other centre-forwards, who he has bought. The forwards he had bought at Dortmund for instance.

“He knows what they are like and whether they will go through a brick wall for him.

“So he will start to trust other people before Daniel Sturridge.”

Sturridge has made only three appearances this season, scoring twice.
