Claudio Ranieri has defended Louis van Gaal after Manchester United drew 1-1 with his Leicester City side at the King Power Stadium today.

Jamie Vardy got on the end of a lightening quick counter-attack from a Manchester United corner to slot past David de Gea in the 24th minute, in the process scoring in his eleventh consecutive Premier League match to break Ruud van Nistelrooy's record.

Manchester United levelled just before half time when Bastian Schweinsteiger headed into the back of the net from a corner.

The visitors controlled possession throughout, but could not find a winning goal and once again struggled to create clear cut chances.

Manchester United fans shouted 'attack, attack, attack', but the Red Devils continued their possession-based game.

Ranieri was asked after the match what he makes of Manchester United under Van Gaal to when he played them when in charge at Chelsea earlier in his career.

But the Italian was in no mood to hit out at the Dutchman and praised Van Gaal for having the Red Devils near the top of the Premier League.

"I know everybody speaks about it [the style of play]. It's different because it's a different manager, it's different champions who play, so everything is different", he said on Sky Sports.

"But I think Van Gaal is doing a very good job.

"Last season he knew the players and now he is very close to the top of the league.

"He will fight until the end", the Italian added.
