Former England international Dion Dublin has urged Newcastle United not to sack manager Steve McClaren, as he feels it would make little difference to their current struggles.

Newcastle were thrashed 5-1 away at Crystal Palace, the club now managed by ex-Magpies boss Alan Pardew, earlier today and sit second bottom of the Premier League table and in real trouble.

The Magpies have the worst goal difference in the league at minus 16 and McClaren has admitted his team are in a relegation fight.

McClaren is now the favourite in the next Premier League manager to be sacked race, but Dublin thinks getting rid of the former Derby boss would be a bad move.

The 46-year-old argues that no matter who Newcastle brought in, the new boss would still have the same players to work with. Dublin also believes that Newcastle badly need managerial stability.

"They are in disarray at the moment. The performance today sort of sums up the whole of their season so far", he said on the BBC's Final Score programme.

"They were all over the place. There wasn't one player I saw today who was taking the bull by the horns.

"[Fabricio] Coloccini in the box looked lost, the balls were coming into the box, no one was trying to stop the cross. If it gets into the box you're in trouble and you concede goals.

"What happens if you get rid of Steve McClaren? Who do you bring in? He's still got the same bunch of players", Dublin continued.

"He's [a new manager] not going to get a whole new team because Steve McClaren goes. I think you've got to get some kind of stability."
