Former Germany and Bayern Munich star Lothar Matthaus feels Manchester United target Thomas Muller should end his career with the Bavarians.

Manchester United have been heavily linked with the World Cup winner since last summer and there has been speculation that Louis van Gaal is ready to break the bank to take Muller to Old Trafford.

Bayern Munich have maintained that they won’t sell the forward at any price and are set to offer him a new contract, which is expected to make him one of the highest paid players at the Allianz Arena. Club CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge complained about Manchester United's chase just last month.

Matthaus feels there are very few clubs Muller can actually join and believes regardless of Manchester United’s interest, the forward doesn’t need to move to England at this stage of his career.

“He does not need Manchester United or Chelsea”, Matthaus told Bild.

“Barcelona perhaps could use him, but I do not know whether he can deal with their game.”

The former Germany star wants Muller to commit his whole career to Bayern Munich and believes that the forward doesn’t need any new challenges as he is already playing at the top level with Pep Guardiola’s side.

“My opinion is he should definitely stay at Bayern for his lifetime.

“He started his professional career at Bayern and I think he should end his career here. He does not need any new challenge as he is always playing at the highest level every year at Bayern.”
